Every good quilt starts with a plan

Which is where I am right now with my Sacramento Modern Quilt Guild Kona challenge quilt.

Relaxing afternoon

I am at the planning stage. I got out a quilt (made by my mom) a pillow, a pile of magazines, my laptop and my trusty The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns: 4050 Pieced Blocks for Quilters

Where I found this block:

Which inspired some sketching and some math.

SMQG Kona Challenge planning

After a lot more sketching and a lot more math I now I have plan. Which means I am about to start the dreaded cutting stage. I don't know why but that is the stage of quilting I hate the most. And I have a lot of it to do.

I have to prep/cut fabric for this quilt, the orange and blue quilt, and the class I am taking with my mom. The good thing about all of this is I am officially on summer break and I will enjoy every minute of each of my projects.

  3. That Kona quilt is so pretty and I love the block you pulled out of that book. I take it, there are no instructions for piecing it and that's why you put the pencil to paper? I may have to do the same. Looking forward to seeing your project using that!
