Quilter's Blog Hop Party Giveaway

I know it has been a long time since I have done one of the these, but it is long past time to host another giveaway. This time I am participating in the blog hop party over at quilting gallery.

Blog Hop Party with Give-Aways

Today I am going to be giving away my most favorite tool of all.

The binding tool for giveaway hop

It is the The Binding Tool. Now I will admit, it can be a little tricky to use, but luckily Jenny at Missouri Star Quilt Company  put together a tutorial to help out with that issue. And I do use this video everytime I do a binding.

Now here is my favorite thing about the tool. It makes that last little part of your binding, where you have to match it up perfect for it to fit perfect, work out amazingly. That is unless you forget to follow all the directions and then well.. Sigh! You have to figure out a solution. However, trust me you only make that mistake once and then you are very very careful with you binding tool :)

Now lets make this easy to pick a winner. I am going to use the rafflecopter app. You will have to chances to win. The first is just leave a comment about binding, do you like it? any tips? The second chance is to follow my blog. Since I am asking you to follow I thought I would add a mosaic of some of the things I have created or you could always check out my completed quiltscompleted sewing project, recipes, or tutorials to see what I have been up to :) As a side note, yes I did use the binding tool on all but maybe three of the quilts here and the orange and blue quilt is the one that I forgot to follow the directions on, but you can hardly tell :)

Examples of some things I have made
1. gramps quilt finished july 2012, 2. Kaleidoscope Quilt, 3. Small bag, 4. Circle quilt full, 5. Posh Quilt detail, 6. Storm at Sea Close up, 7. Orange and Blue Quilt Folded, 8. Simple little table runner, 9. Baby Sudoku , 10. Logan's Little Allstar close up, 11. crochet roll up, 12. My Paris Traveler's bag, 13. Dish towels and Dish Mat, 14. Carnival Quilt Top Finished, 15. zig zag rug mug, 16. Owl mug rug

I will pick a winner on Tuesday, September 4, 2012. I will email the winner and that person will have 72 hours to email me back or it is time to pick a new winner. This is open to anyone I will ship internationally.

  1. HI Jenn. Binding a quilt doesn't bother me. I really don't mind doing it. I usually just sew it down on the front, then turn it and hand-stitch it to the back. Thanks for a chance to win this tool.

  2. I used a standard binding technique. Sew it down on the front and hand stitch on the back.

  7. I don't mind binding; it isn't exciting but it gives me a chance to think about lessons learned making the quilt, who it is for and to give the fabric a few strokes before it leaves the house. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.

  13. Yes, I love the binding part of a quilt. I machine stitch it onto the front then hand stitch it on the back. It is theraputic for me and I love that it means the quilt is done once I do that last TRICKY bit - this ruler would be very welcome in my sewing room :)

  15. For an easy binding finish, stitch the folded binding to the back of the quilt, wrap to the front and secure with a decorative machine stitch. Works great for kid's charity quilts!

  16. I don't have any special tips for binding - and I finish it blunt ended, because I don't have a tool and to guess the proper length to sew the ends together at an angle seems to tricky. I don't mind binding at all - I usually listen to an audiobook or podcasts while I hand sew, so the time goes by pretty fast.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I don't have any special tips. I do it the usual way but this tool looks like a must have.

Thank you for the chance to win it or else I think I will have to buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've found some tutorials I like where it's totally done by machine. I'm just worried about how long handstitched binding would last so that's why I chose that method.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hello! I have only made one quilt so far, and I was too afraid to try binding. I just put all the pieces together and turned it inside out, then quilted. Hopefully I can build up the courage to bind a quilt one day!

  33. I've never used the binding tool, I usually end up trying to muddle my way through it!

My favourite way to stitch down binding is where you sew it to the back of your quilt and then fold it over to the front and machine stitch it using a decorative stitch. It's very forgiving compared to attempting to ditch stitch it perfectly!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't mind binding but I always find that last join the most frustrating. I have seen the tool and the tutorial by Jenny and I would so love one of these tools. Not sure if I can get one down here in Australia but I have my fingers crossed!

  38. I love doing binding. It feels good to be at the final stage of a quilt. Also I like doing the hand stitching on the back. That is the only hand stitching I like to do. I don't have any tips other than I watch a lot of YouTube videos on how to do different things.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't mind doing binding. I always sew to the front then hand stitch the back

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't mind doing binding either. Sometimes it can add a little extra pizzazz to the quilt depending on what fabric you use.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I love binding, and only just this past week got an "end" to look perfect (it's taken MANY tries). I had no idea that there was a tool for this; will have to look into that some more!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Binding is my nemesis, and it is a shame because it is the last step on a project and it is sad if I really mess it up! Love the look of well done binding though, I think it makes a project that much better. I do it slowly and very carefully, still have problems sometimes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I love binding when it goes right... on the occassion that it does that is... But as many have said it is my nemesis too, the problem I have is getting the stitches in the ditch on the 'other' side... the side that I know as the 'dark' side x hoppy blogging x

    ReplyDelete
  44. Not so thrilled about binding. I'm a little bit intimidated.

    ReplyDelete

  48. Hate it. hate it. hate it. I have never made a quilt without having to rip out stitching on the last step of the binding. It's almost like a mental block. I have written out my direction so many times it's ridiculous. A tool would be awesome!!

  50. Binding is the worst part of quilting for me--I have a hard time getting the pieces sewn together without an offset (for which this tool would be just the thing). And then I just postpone attaching the binding forever. I need a quilting buddy who loves to bind; I'd do just about any other task if she would bind my quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm not sure how I feel about binding yet. I'm working on my first quilt right now. So, I'm really looking for tips more than anything. This looks like a nifty tool. And it's a super video. Thanks for sharing!

  53. Well, I love binding because it is the "finishing touch" on any quilt-- can really set off the quilt and make it POP! :-) But, I'm not the best at it, I'm afraid. If you're not careful-- and measure and pin carefully-- you can stretch the edges and have your quilt turn out "waffly"-- so measure and pin-- a lot! :-)

  54. thank you for this chance, hugs

  55. Binding is always a tricky thing for me. I can get it sewed on and even end up with perfect corners, but getting that last bit sewn together and flat on the quilt is always tough for me. I have had this tool on my wish list for a while! Thanks for the chance. :)

  111. I love doing the binding, because it means all your hard work is done :) The only thing better is getting it out of the wash and dryer and it's all crinkly!!! :) I just clip off a piece of one of the ends and turn it sideways. The width of the binding is a perfect measure for where to cut the ends. Thanks for sharing!

  119. I hate to admit this but I don't have any binding tips because I've never done a "real" binding! Hope that makes sense, lol!
